Cinetheatre experience in Development
JUDGE DREAD is being workshopped over Easter 2024 thanks to a CNZ Arts Grant.
Socially inept and terminally online Sarah has trouble irl. The internet has made her cripplingly self aware; the pandemic only accelerated her anxious inner monologue. After Sarah tells her co-worker Mark she had a sex dream about him, she replays the awkward confession in her head all day. Then, the next morning, Sarah discovers Mark has quit.
At night she dreams again, but this time she dreams she is on trial. Sarah is charged with having something to do with Mark quitting.
The audience become the jury, embarking on a journey through all of the evidence, and tasked with delivering the verdict. The end of the JUDGE DREAD is different depending on the audience’s vote — does Sarah wake up guilty or innocent?
JUDGE DREAD explores the ways in which women judge themselves.
